King Midas is a Gold Bricker Archvillain as well as their leader. He has one known daughter in Princess Zoe, who herself has risen in the ranks of the Gold Brickers despite Midas' opposition.

During the events of the Midas Touched story arc given by Dr. Shelly Percey, it is revealed he is her patient, having only six months to live caused by his skin condition (which is not actually made of gold, Shelly infers he paints himself that way to look tough, although it is harder than diamond). At the conclusion of the arc, she is able to cure Midas from dying.

Villains may fight him:

Description

Lawrence Langston boasts having one of the most distinguished criminal careers in the Rogue Isles as well as control over a global corporate dynasty.

His reign as 'King Midas' was not without assistance however, and he struck many deals in order to obtain his both literal and figurative power. In a bid to accrue even greater strength, he became Dr. Aeon's science experiment and gained indestructible diamond-like skin in exchange for helping the doctor manipulate affairs within Cap Au Diable.

At a certain point however (likely after the birth of his daughter), King Midas decided to prioritize the future of his loyal Gold Brickers over his dealings with Dr. Aeon, ending what was a colorful 30 year partnership in the shadows.

Apocrypha

  • According to the Lore AMA, Matt Miller states King Midas "had the power to turn anything he touched into “gold” (which only looked like gold, had none of the properties, and was obviously fake). Since he was constantly tempted by what would appear to be wealth, but wasn’t, he became a criminal to steal REAL gold."
