Overview

Introduced with Issue 13, the Day Job system allows characters to log out from a specific location, like a Hospital or Vault Reserve facility, and gain a temporary power or other benefit when they return to play after an extended period offline. Prolonged offline time in each Day Job is also worth Badges. All benefits granted by Day Jobs, other than badges, are temporary and expire after a certain amount of play time or number of uses. However, each time a character logs out from a Day Job area, the corresponding benefits are replenished.

Basic Rewards, Badges, and Accolades

Main Article: Day Job Badges

Most basic Day Job benefits expire after a certain amount of time spent logged in — there is no way to save them for when they would benefit you most. Most rewards take 10 days of offline time to accumulate the maximum benefit duration, which is usually 2 hours. There is no limit to the number of different Day Job benefits a character can have at once.

When characters accumulate 21 total days of offline time (consecutively or otherwise) at a Day Job location, they earn a Badge associated with that Day Job. Characters with a Day Job badge recharge that Job's benefits faster than normal, and usually receive a better benefit from it as well.

Finally, Accolades can be obtained by earning specific pairs of Day Job badges. These Accolades grant their own powers and benefits in addition to those provided by the Day Jobs themselves. Furthermore, many of these Accolade benefits expire after a certain number of uses instead of a certain amount of play time, so they can be saved until needed. Additional duration or charges for Day Job Accolades are earned by logging off from either of the areas associated with the two badges that unlocked the Accolade.

When players obtain Day Job badges, they unlock progress information in the Accolades section of the Badges Window that reveals which Day Jobs to collect next to complete any associated Accolades. (However, like most Badge progress displays, exactly which Accolades they are isn't revealed until they're fully earned.)

The following messages are given when a character has visited the first Day Job location.

Hero Message
You've encountered your first day job location. Logging out at these locations will grant you bonuses to rewards and powers when you log back in. You can tell you're in a valid Day Job location by a golden icon that will appear in your power buff tray that will explain what bonuses that Day Job grants. Speak to a Day Job Recruiter in City Hall (Atlas Park), or Galaxy City for more information.

On Patrol

Main Article: Patrol Experience

In addition to all of the Day Jobs, every character is "On Patrol" while logged out of the game, regardless of location. When players log back in, they gain 1 bar of Patrol Experience for every 24 hours they are logged out. Patrol Experience is shown in light blue on the experience bar. Unlike other basic Day Job bonuses, Patrol XP doesn't wear out with time. It lasts until it is consumed by gaining regular experience or being "burned" off by debt.

A level 50 character does not accumulate Patrol XP; however, if they log out with debt, Patrol XP will burn the debt off so they will log in with less or no debt next time.
