New Template
Would there be any support in creating a slightly different template for use with Dev Quotes and other non-cutscene text? Perhaps one that has a spot for links for the source of said material? I have found {{Cutscene}} to be less than ideal for that task in the past. Thoughts? User:Thirty7/Sig 09:25, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Like this template here?
Example:
Zwilinger: Some meme thing or another... All your base? Source |
Using red here as this would be intended for use with Developer comments... and they are red names. User:Thirty7/Sig 12:50, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- I can see the potential value for this.
- I would perhaps put a bit more prominence to where they're being quoted from, and when. Tacking it on at the end feels awkward to me. And oftentimes it would be very helpful to know when something was said, but that info gets lost when posts get purged. Quick example:
- Zwilinger on the official forums on October 3, 2011Some meme thing or another... All your base?
- You also need to account for the possibility that something might be quoted from a non-online source, such as in person at a conference or from printed media.
- Zwilinger at San Diego Comic-Con International on July 23, 2011Some meme thing or another... All your base?
- When citing something, you generally include who, when, and where; I feel we'd be amiss if we didn't include all three if we can.
- The other issue with using the superscript link option is that it won't mix well with ref notes. -- Sekoia 13:30, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- Not sure how I feel about the dotted line, but I do like the more complete citation. User:Thirty7/Sig 13:39, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Updated example reflecting most recent changes to the template:
Zwilinger from this post on the Official Forums; October 3, 2011: Some meme thing or another... All your base? |
-- Sekoia 14:05, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
(Thanks for preserving that bit of history there. User:Thirty7/Sig 14:08, 24 July 2012 (UTC))
- I'm not married to using a dotted line, but I think we need to set the attribution apart from the quote better. It just all runs together as a single block of text as it stands. *ponders* -- Sekoia 14:12, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- Here's another possibility:
Some meme thing or another... All your base? — Zwilinger, the Official Forums, October 3, 2011
- I don't entirely care for it, but thought I'd share it anyway in case it inspires some other change that might be better. -- Sekoia 14:29, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- I am not a big fan of that method either... in fact, I much prefer the dotted line seperator. Mayhap some better suggestion will come along. Also, I just seperated the date out of the "source" parameter. That way the formatting for the citation will be more clear and not require as much memorization in terms of order in the use of "source." User:Thirty7/Sig 01:39, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- I think I am pleased with the current look of the template, see here for two examples of it in use. Any further input on this? If not, than I will start going through {{Cutscene}} uses to implement this template. (I also changed "style" to "type" which I think is slightly better since it refers to the type of comment being listed, not just the visual style.) User:Thirty7/Sig 02:06, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
- I think this is the first time I have ever done a documentation subpage (though I have "documented" in the past). User:Thirty7/Sig 14:46, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Color Choice
If this goes into use... I am curious what colors to make this... User:Thirty7/Sig 13:02, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- I recommend keeping conversion about this in one place for now, rather than split across two pages. I nearly asked what the purpose of this was until I used "what links here?" to track down the other relevant conversation at Template talk:Cutscene. -- Sekoia 13:25, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- Indeed. Moving convo here, presently User:Thirty7/Sig 13:26, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- It seems to me that we should have a "style=" option. Then "style=dev" will style it for a developer's comments (perhaps in red). We should probably use a more generic coloring as a default for "somebody non-specific said this". -- Sekoia 13:32, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- A "syle" parameter would be nice, wouldn't force the color so much. Which is good in the long run. User:Thirty7/Sig 13:39, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
