Overview
Medi-Corp are a company based in Paragon City that operate and maintain the MediCom network, allowing fallen Heroes to teleport directly to Hospitals for treatment.
Personnel
Lucas Zanella - President of Medi-Corp
MediCom Network
The MediCom or MedCom Network is derived from technology developed by Portal Corporation researchers[1] following the Rikti War. The medi-porter is a small portable device that can be applied as a patch onto a persons body that communicates with MediCom nodes spread throughout the City.[2] It will analyze the current medical status of a user and teleport them to the nearest Medical Center upon defeat.[3] It can also send Heroes to a registered Supergroup Base if outfitted with a Reclaimator or Resurrection Circle.
Interception
It is possible for the MediCom teleport to be intercepted or disabled. Several groups including the 5th Column, Arachnos, Circle of Thorns, Council and Longbow have methods of intercepting defeated hostiles within their bases, sending them instead to nearby holding cells. The Paragon Police Department are able to intercept Villains using Arachnos' network that are defeated while causing Mayhem in Paragon City, sending them to a nearby PPD cellblock.
During subsequent Rikti Invasions, it was reported in the Paragon Times that the local MediCom network became jammed to capacity due to the high number of Heroes being defeated.[4]
Part of Emperor Cole's planned invasion of Primal Earth involved disabling the MediCom network, which would have resulted in huge numbers of Primal Earth's defenders being captured or killed in the conflict.[5]
Alternatives
- Arachnos have developed a suspiciously similar network used by Villains throughout the Rogue Isles.
- Praetoria have developed similar technologies, used by the Praetorian Police Department and Powers Division.[6]
- Ouroboros are seemingly able to extract an operative defeated while Time Travelling via the Pillar of Ice and Flame, returning them to the citadel.
- The Midnight Squad installed modified MediCom Teleporters in a Cimeroran cave in the distant past.
Controversy
Medi-Corp have a policy of only issuing medi-porters to Heroes registered with the FBSA. This lead to the formation of a group called the "Citizens for Medi-Porters" advocating for widespread availability of the devices. These events resulted in the theft of prototype medi-porter technology and the kidnapping of Medi-Corp President Lucas Zanella.
After the recovery of the technology and rescue of the President, Medi-Corp started a program to distribute medi-porters to the handicapped and elderly of Paragon City.[7]
