Legal Concern

It's a good picture, but what does it have to do with Kheldians? Please explain either in the body or as a caption under the picture. I have no idea who Horus is, but Requiem is a 5th Column / Council AV. - LordXenophon

Kheldian Lore?

So, is there a page about Kheldian LORE yet? I've looked on the official site, and I've played some in game, but there's so many questions I have about stuff. Like I had originally thought that Nictus could take a host forcibly, so I made a ex-Nictus that decided to go the Path of the Warshade, and talked it's unwilling host into being a willing host (she was a bad person too, so they both decided to seek redemption together). After a few missions, I realized this wouldn't work quite right, but I still liked it, so for lack of a better alternative, I decided that this Nictus figured out how to take a host against their will, but kept it to itself, and now that it's good, there's no way it's letting Arakhan get that information! BUT, it would have been nice to have been able to find some history and background on the Kheldians beforehand. RagabashMoon 03:15, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Player Guides cat

I added this to the Player Guides cat. This article is copied from a player guide and reads very much like a player guide, so it seems appropriate given the content. However, this article probably shouldn't be a player guide since it's for such a primary topic in the game. It should probably have its text revised to move from 1st person to 3rd person, and to avoid making suggestions about "your character" and such. The more guide-y parts could be used to create a new "guide" article maybe. I'm bookmarking this to come back to in the future (eventually, hopefully) but wanted to mention it in case anyone else had thoughts on it, or felt like taking a hammer to it. Most of the content is probably pretty appropriate, it's just writing voice that needs the most change I think. -- Sekoia 12:42, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Unfounded speculation

Just wanted to add a thought about the speculation section of this article... according to relativity, things moving near the speed of light experience time differently. So while we would say a Kheldian coming from Alpha Centauri at the speed of light took over four years to get here, from their perspective it would be a much shorter amount of time. This could help explain how they get from planet to planet... only aging significantly while they are searching a new planet at low speeds.

Note to self / anyone: the version of Memphis Bill's post linked in the article is from 2008; there is a more recent archived version from 2012 here: https://web.archive.org/web/20120905121326/http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=114391 It's worth checking to compare the two versions. Revision - Removal

I hate to say this.

I'm removing much of the guide. I've had it made abundantly clear that lore is unappreciated, and as much as writing the original Kheldian backstory guide was a labor of love and something I've been proud of for nearly 20 years at this point - I'm done. I won't let something I put effort and heart into be used for abuse. (Not by anyone that, as far as I know, is part of the wiki, to be clear.)

Please do not reupload or quote it, or use it as a source.

I don't know what abuse you're referring to, but I would like to gently point out that, as you said yourself, it likely has nothing to do with this wiki or the general population of people who use it, and the content you're removing is both linked to on this page and available elsewhere on the internet. The only thing this is really accomplishing is to leave a community resource worse than it was. We don't really have a formal Terms of Use policy or anything like that that I'm aware of anymore - this is a volunteer project for a volunteer project that is barely being held afloat by about two dozen people on average - and I doubt that anyone would want to weaponize it over something like this even if we did, but I will say that it's against the spirit of what a wiki fundamentally is to "take back" content in this way.

Edit: It's been pointed out to me that all text not covered by the NCSoft Ownership Policy on both ParagonWiki and by proxy the Homecoming wiki is released under the GNU license. As I understand it, that means that we, as editors, relinquish any ownership rights to anything we put here - or that you, by proxy, agreed to have put here - in perpetuity. Whether any of the admins chooses to enforce the license to reinstate the content you removed is another matter entirely, but it is worth being aware of. -Draeth Darkstar (talk) 21:21, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

I could enforce it, but I really know very little about Kheldians or their backstory. If some of you who do would let me know if you _want_ me to enforce it, that would be helpful. In this specific instance, I also defer to people who know the Kheldian lore better than I do. In general, I think it should be made very clear to everyone that wiki contents don't belong to any individual and we don't have a right to decide after the fact that we can "take them back" for any reason. It is honestly a shame that you have decided to take it down from here, as it is still available elsewhere on the web so all this has done is harm the Homecoming wiki which like Draeth mention, is a volunteer project. I have taken it upon myself to learn how to properly use this and update the Kheldian section with the relative information, and no matter what people might argue with me about on the forums or Discord I don't intend to take it down and rid the people who do use it of this resource. I do hope you can find your love for Kheldians again in a manner that does not constrict how others might play them but instead help them grow. -Laucianna (talk) 00:34, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
