Division: Line

Souvenir: C'Kelkah's ceremonial blade

This ceremonial Rikti blade was given to you by the Rikti Traditionalist leader C'Kelkah as a sign of her thanks. To you it is a memento, reminding you of the strange adventure so bizarre you call it by the Rikti name:

Division: Line

It all began when a strange Rikti dimensional experiment on the streets of the city turned into a pitched battle among the Rikti themselves! You went in to shut down the experiment and free civilians trapped between the warring sides.
Though the situation was contained in the end, you were left wondering why the Rikti would ever fight each other?

You next journeyed to a war-ravaged abandoned Earth to stop another Rikti interdimensional experiment. You fought Rikti fighting Rikti again, and discovered that one side had already damaged the other's portal equipment.

You received word that a member of the Lost, now known by the Rikti name Nen'Kulf, wanted to speak with you. Nen'Kulf was worried, however, that Rikti from another faction might try to stop the meeting. You arrived in time to save Nen'Kulf from other Rikti who had caught him, and he explained to you that the Rikti on Earth were starting to factionalize. The battles you'd seen were between the Traditionalist faction, who sought to rebuild the Rikti civilization of their home world on Earth, and the Restructurist faction, who want to create a new Rikti society to handle the current situation. Nen'Kulf also gave you the location of a Traditionalist leader.

Once Nen'Kulf information was confirmed you moved in and captured C'Kelkah, a Rikti dimensional travel scientist and one of the leaders of the Rikti Traditionalists. Curiously, you also found devices meant to disrupt interdimensional travel being prepared at the base.

Disturbing trends revealed in C'Kelkah's initial interrogation were reinforved when you discovered that Nen'Kulf had been granted a full Rikti conversion following C'Kelkah's capture. You went to capture the transformed Nen'Kulf during his first action as a full Rikti of the Lineage of War.

All plans were thrown into disarray when the Nemesis Army struck, kidnapping C'Kelkah! Nen'Kulf was killed in the attack as well. You went to recapture her from Nemesis, and found that the Rikti were already trying to do the same. Unfortunately, Nemesis had already moved C'Kelkah to another location.

With few leads on C'Kelkah's location, you hit the next best thing: the stagging point fot a Traditionalist Rikti operation to rescue C'Kelkah. Using information you found there, you were able to find C'kelkah's current location and rescue her from the Nemesis Army. C'Kelkah was very thankful, and though communication was difficult, tried to thank you and explain the differences between the Rikti factions from her point of view. She explained that while the Traditionalists wanted to recreate the stable society of their home, the Restructurists were led by power hungry leaders of the Lineage of War, who wished to build a society they could rule.

To show that she was willing to work in good faith, C'Kelkah provided the location of a facility the Restructurist Rikti used to convert Lost into new troops. You shut the place down and recovered several testimonial journals from Lost converts, including one written by Nen'Kulf.

Decryptions of Nemesis Army documents you found when recapturing C'Kelkah showed that Nemesis had planned on capturing a Restructurist leader as well. With information from C'Kelkah, you were able to update the plan and captured the Restructurist general Lu'Bew, as well as plans for future Rikti operations. More important, however, was the discovery of a Rikti who used magical powers!

When questioned about the mystic Rikti, C'Kelkah replied that some Lost converts had displayed an aptitude for arcane powers. The Traditionalists had not pursued this, but there were rumors that radical Restructurists had. There were even rumors that they'd captured a Circle of Thorns sorcerer and were forcing him to teach them magic. You investigated, and found out that the rumors were true. You captured a Circle mage called Otrant who told you that the Rikti were also interested in magical barriers.

You next intercepted a Restructurist Rikti interdimensional expedition, and learned from the readings of the Rikti devices that the barrier sealing off the Rikti home world was magical in nature. Combined with the orders you found and the radical Restructurist's new magical power, it became evident that the Rikti sought to breach the mystic barrier to their home world!

The final stage was setwhen the radical Restructurists overran a section of Oranbega rich in stored magical energy. You rushed to the scene and fought through both Circle of Thorns defenders and Rikti attackers until you were able to stop the Restructurists plans.

With the radical Restructurists' defeat came the first hope of peace since the beginning of the Rikti War. C'Kelkah offered to begin cease-fire talks between the peoples of Earth and the Rikti Traditionalist faction. It's not a full peace, and it may be far off, but it is a chance.

When asked why she had been willing to help fight the Restructurists, C'Kelkah's reasoning was simple. She worried that if the Restructuristscould restore contact with the Rikti home Earth, they would likely be given free reign to continue on Earth until they achieved victory. She feared that with that taste of victory, they would not allow their power to be taken away and be merged back under the command of the Lineage of War. That they might not stop with one Earth alone.

Need text

While other forces are preparing to counter-attack, it is important to either evacuate the remaining civilians, or to prevent the dimensional experiment the Rikti are performing by incapacitating their machines. You will need to take the light rail over to the site of the battle. It's been contained with an emergency force filed, so that should make your job easier.

Debriefing

Thanks to your swift intervention, civilian casualties were low and we were ableto determine that the Rikti were performing some sort of large-scale measurement. We were unable to determine what they were measuring.

I am disturbed that the forces brought to bear in what seems to have been an intercine struggle were powerful enough to challenge you. The Rikti way is one of monolithic harmony. What could cause such a schism among them?

Prevent the Rikti from achieving their aims on an alternate Earth

Briefing

Portal Corporation scientists have monitored an unauthorized interdimensional transit from our world to a nearby alternate Earth. Readings match the dimensional jump technology that the Rikti recently stole from Portal Corporation, but show signs of modification that match some of the cahnges made to the Portal aparatus recovered after your recent battle with the Rikti on the city streets. I have been authorized by my superiors to request your assistance to prevent the Rikti from achieving their aims on an alternate Earth, whatever those aims may be.

I am uncertain of the Rikti aims. The modifications to their portal generation equipments indicate that they may not be attempting a breakthrough to our home Earth, but may be performing some other operation. It is still important to alter their portal generation equipment to ensure that that world is cut off from the Rikti home Earth.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Disrupt Rikti portal devices

When you examined the Rikti's portal generation devices, you discovered that they had already been sabotaged and disrupted by someone else.

Debriefing

All evidence indicate that the Rikti's portal devices had been tampered with before you even arrived. That, in combination with another outbreak of inter-Rikti violence points to the possibility that the Rikti are undergoing an internal schism. I am going to speak with some of my own sources, Hero. Perhaps I can uncover more.

Meet Nen'Kulf and find out what he has to say

Briefing

I have spoken with a number of contacts I still have amongthe Lost about the recent Rikti against Rikti battles we have seen. Few are willing to tell me anything, but one, a man who has taken the Rikti name Nen'Kulf, has agreed to talk. Nen'Kulf will not speak to me, fearing I will contaminate his hard-won "Rikti Thought" pattern, but he has agreed to speak with you. I believe that he is genuine. However, he is concerned that members of one of the factions may attempt to prevent the meeting. Despite this danger, I would like to ask you to meet Nen'Kulf and find out what he has to say about the recent Rikti conflicts.

I knew the man who is now Nen'Kulf well. He joined the Lost after he lost everything in the war, and always sought to help his fellows. He has long given me bits of information in the hopes that the war could be ended peacefully and soon. I am suprised that he had not mentioned the division among the Rikti earlier, but if he wishes to talk now, he should be listened to.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Meet with Nen'Kulf

Rikti

Clue
Nen'Kulf's information

After his rescue from Rikti of another faction, the Restructurist faction Lost called Nen'Kulf told you:

"Rikti are: Divided. Two Factions: Restructurist, Traditionalist.
Traditionalist are: Fanatic faction. They seek: Iron-clad rule. They seek: Total recreation of Home-Earth Rikti society. They are: Bound in: Old ways. They are: inflexible. Converted Lost are: Second class citizens: For Traditionalists.
Restructurists seek: New ways. Restructurists reform: Blocked by: Traditionalist agenda. Traditionalists seek: Total Rule of: Humans; Rikti, when: Home-Earth contacted.
I provide: Location of: Strongest Traditionalist leader."

Nen'Kulf information is very interesting. The Rikti here on Earth are having difficulty figuring out how to proceed without guidance from the home Earth. It may be possible to take advantage of this. Of the two factions Nen'Kulf outlined, the Traditionalists seem to pose a larger threat. I will filter all of this information through the intelligence network, and check into the location Nen'Kulf provided you.
If the information is verifiable, I may soon need to request your assistance in a sanctioned action against thos Traditionalists, Hero.

Defeat and capture the Traditionalist scientist C'Kelkah

Briefing

Intelligence has been able to confirm the information provided by Nen'Kulf about the current location of a major Traditionalist leader. I have further been able to verify this leader's identity as C'Kelkah, a leading scientist with the Rikti invasion forces who is believed to be in charge of their dimensional travel research teams. The strategic nature of her position within the Rikti science hierachy increases the priority of C'Kelkah's capture. I have thus been authorized to sanction an attempt to defeat and/or capture C'Kelkah, and would like to ask for your assistance in this operation.

C'Kelkah is currently overseeing the setup of a forward base in an old Council facility. This facility was cleared out some time ago by an independant hero action, but a Rikti infiltrator in City Hall managed to hide its location, preventing its demolition. Your mission will be to locate C'kelkah and her direct subordinates and defeat them.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Defeat C'Kelkah & her guards
    • Unknown

Enemies

Rikti

Clue
Interference devices

Though these devices are clearly made with Rikti technology for Rikti use, you can figure out enough to see that they are built to scramble dimensional portal generators, potentially even helping to seal off travel between targeted dimensions. Why the Rikti would want to scramble portals is unknown.

Notable NPCs

  • C'Kelkah

Debriefing

With C'Kelkah's capture, we will likely see a drop in activity from the dangerous Traditionalist Rikti faction. I will continue my investigations with Nen'Kulf and others to observe the impact. What is potentially more important is C'Kelkah's role in Rikti dimensional travel research. Further investigation of the site has uncovered odd evidence that the devices being prepared by C'Kelkah's team were made to disrupt dimensional travel. The reasoning for this is unknown, but may come out during C'Kelkah's interrogation.

Stop the Rikti from securing Portal technology

Briefing

Let's get straight to work, Hero. The Rikti are striking a Portal Corporation research lab. It's a small lab, where they try out all the new technology; it's even a secret to most of Portal Corporation's staff. You must stop the Rikti from securing that portal technology. Before I escaped the Rikti, I was ablw to learn a good deal about upcoming operations. The Rikti have been working toward a dangerous new goal. Ever since contact with the Rikti homeworld was cut off, the Rikti trapped on Earth have been desperate to establish contact with the homeworld again. I believe that they are getting very close to starting their own dimensional travel program. Their goal will be to find alternate routes back to our homeworld. If they succeed, they could start a new invasion.

The Rikti will be looking to accomplish several main goals: kidnap key Portal Corporation researchers, copy Portal Corporation files about near dimensions, and acquire Portal Corporation portal generation technology. You can either defeat all Rikti operatives, or prevent them from accomplish these goals.

Debriefing

Your overall success was quite impressive. The Rikti did manage to get away with important Portal technology, but without the databases and captives, they will not be able to use it effectively. However, they may still have enough information to begin opening portals of their own. I hope that I will be able to count on your continued assistance in preventing an interdimensional Rikti breakout.

I am especially glad that you were able to prevent the abduction of the researchers. The Rikti would no doubt have used an alteration process on them to ensure their cooperation. The Rikti's transformation process can be extremely traumatic, even to a prepared mind, and retaining human thought patterns is difficult. On their behalf, I'd like to extend my personal thanks.

Catch a hostile infiltrator in the Rikti before he can return to the Council

Briefing

When I was sent to infiltrate the Lost, I was briefed about the possible presence of other infiltrators. One of my secondary objectives was to determine if there were other non-sanctioned infiltrators, and if those operatives were from organizations hostile to the government. I identified several possible operatives, but was only able to confirm one, a Council agent I knew as "Sigmund". However, I was never able to act against him without losing my own cover. Now that my mission is over, an opportunity has presented itself to clear up the situation and act against the infiltrator I discovered. I have been authorized to request your assistance to catch a hostile infiltrator in the Rikti before he can return to the Council.

The Council operative may be difficult to locate, but it is imperative that he is caught before he can return to the Council's ranks. I have been given his last known location among the Rikti. Hopefully you will be able to catch him before the Council recovery teams can extract him.

Mission Objective(s)

Clue
Warcry memory unit playback

Before its destruction and disassembly by the Rikti, this Council robot had been part of a raid meant to extract Sigmund, the Council infiltrator inside the Lost. The robot had no information you can access on its return location, but you could probably find the information you want by interrogating Council agents in the field.

Infiltrator's location

By interrogating Council troops, you found enough information to figure out where the Council would have taken the recovered infiltrator, Sigmund.

Debriefing

It is fortunate that you were able to aprehend Sigmund. He had undergone full Rikti metamorphosis, but had retained his loyalty to the Council. The level of access he had to Rikti information combined with his allegiance could have proves catastrophic.

It is strange, but I am almost envious of him. My own counter-measures were nearly overcome, and I had to escape. The single-minded determination he would have needed to overcome the Rikti alteration astounds me.

Capture the portal research facility and retrieve any Rikti portal research

Briefing

Attempts to track Rikti use of stolen Portal Corporation technology have met with limited success up to now, but there has been a possible breakthrough. Monitoring has located what may be a temporary Rikti facility for portal research. I have been authorized to ask for your assistance to capture the portal research facility and retrieve any Rikti portal research.

Your goal will be to defeat the Rikti's head researcher, who we believe is called Tilektu, and his assistants. You must also recover the results of any research conducted by the Rikti.

We are currently able to trace Rikti transits and stop them because they are using Portal Corporation technology. If they were to discover a means of disguising their transit or re-building their own transit network, it could present a serious danger to the Earth.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Defeat Tilektu and assistants
    • Unknown

Enemies

Rikti

Clue
Rikti written research notes

This report has been written in the Rikti's alien language of sheets of clean plastic-like film. Diagrams in the paper seem to relate to portal technology.

Notable NPCs

  • Tilektu

Debriefing

From the report you found and the data gathered at the scene, it appears that this research was a greater theat than anticipated. The research being conducted was concentrating on determining the reason why our home Earth...

That is, why the Rikti home Earth had been cut off from contact with our dimension.

This report is very interesting. I retain some knowledge of Rikti writing, but the finer points of this are difficult. They would likely be difficult even with a full knowledge of Rikti written communication modes. The report is mainly written in Primary, the Rikti technical leanguage, but the author is using words and Thought: Modes from other languages to describe the barrier. There are sections in Archival, the language used for historical records, and in Mortal, the language used by the Lineage of War. It's as if they were trying to describe the interdimensional barrier as a magical effect. Fascinating.

Save a number of Lost from full conversion to Rikti

Briefing

I would like to request your discreet assistance in a difficult matter. If you are not interested, I will not hold against you, as this action has not been sanctioned by my superiors and is therefore not condoned by the government at this time. The operation is not illegal, but I have discovered the situation through unconventional means that would be frowned on by the chain of command. Knowing this, if you are still willing to assist me it could save a number of Lost from full conversion to Rikti. There is not much time, the Rikti will know your intention. You will have 90 minutes or less.

I still have occasional contact with members of the Lost cell I infiltrated. It's not usually purposeful, but a matter of psionic leak-through to their portion of the Rikti mind-web. There are several of them who are being prepared to for the final conversion into full Rikti, but they know that they will be assigned to the Lineage of War to be used as front-line troops. They retain enough human loyalty that they do not wish to be used as disposable soldiers in this manner. During contact I was able to discern their location. All that remains now is their rescue.

Thank you, Hero. Succeed or fail, I appreciate your effort.

Debriefing

You did very well, Hero, and have my continued thanks. I went outside my own authority and ensured sufficient media coverage of your actions to insure that the Lost you rescued will receive proper medical and social attention instead of being consigned to government or scientific study.

I can feel their thoughts at the edge of my perception. They are scared, but much happier. They think highly of your courage and compassion, as do I.

I also appreciate your discrection in this matter.

Stop the Rikti transdimensional expedition and contain the Devouring Earth

Briefing

The Rikti have been detected accesing a quarantined dimension, one where the Devouring Earth successfully hijacked the world's ecosystem and erradicated all human life. It is assumed that the Rikti are trying to find an alternate path to their home dimension, but that they are unaware of the extreme hazard this dimension represents. As I am certain you're aware, allowing the Rikti to find a path to their dimension of origin would be disastrous. There is an additional danger of alerting the natives of the dimension in question to the existence of our world. I have been authorized to ask for your assistance to stop the Rikti transdimensional expedition and contain the Devouring Earth on their own world.

While it is unlikely that the Rikti knowingly entered an hostile dimension, it is possible that they have already encountered difficulty. This will not change the objective of your task. Your main objective will be to disrupt the portal generation apparatus the Rikti have utilized to access this world. That will cut off Rikti access to that dimension, or at least disrupt any possible corridors from there to the Rikti homeworld. If those devices have been hidden too well, you can also concentrate on hunting down all Rikti operatives present at their transfer site on that world, as well as any hostile local residents they have come in contact with.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Disrupt Rikti portal devices

Debriefing

The Rikti will not be able to continue their search from that world, and the adjustments you made should prevent further interaction between that world and ours. Thought it is unlikely that the Rikti would return to such a hostile location, the full capabilities of that world's Devouring Earth population are unknown.

The Devouring Earth overran that worldat approximately the same time as the Rikti Invasion occurred in our world. These events were not linked, but the proximity of their occurrence prevented us from offering any aid.

Stop the Rikti expedition and discover the identity of the second expedition

Briefing

Portal Corporation scientists have detected two transits to an alternate dimension. The first matches the signature of the portal technology the Rikti stole from Portal Corporation. The second is based on a different technology and would not have been detected had the scientists not been monitoring. Both originated from this world, however. I have been authorized to ask you to stop the Rikti transdimensional expedition and discover the identity of the other expedition we detected.

The world you will be traveling to is relatively uncharted. Dimensional probes have revealed that it is not a hostile environment. Your goal will be to disrupt the Rikti portals on site to ensure that that world is cut off from the Rikti homeworld, and to find out the identity of the second group to transit over to that world.

This forest is relatively unspoiled. You aim to see that it remains that way.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Disrupt Rikti expedition
    • 6 portal devices to adjust

Debriefing

You performed excellently and have disrupted the Rikti expedition, even under these difficult circumstances.

I had not been briefed about the Nemesis Army's interdimensional capability. I must apologize to you for not being able to supply you with that information. I have had a discussion with the agent in charge of Nemesis operations. He informed me that I had not been cleared for that level of access due to uncertainties concerning my time with the Lost. I am sorry if you were unduly endangered because of this.

Capture a communication from a Rikti soldier in the field

Briefing

I have recently discovered that the Rikti have begun to fear that someone is listening in on their mental network. I cannot verify id this is true, but I have not been made aware of any such breakthrough at this time. To counteract this potwntial threat, the Rikti commanders have started issuing false commands and issuing code written orders to confirm which commands are true. The Rikti are unused to intricate battlefield deceptions, however, and this could be used to our advantage. If you could capture one of these communications from a Rikti soldier in the field, it could help in counter-intelligence programs against them.

You must concentrate your search in the Rikti Crash Site. It is believed that the Rikti have started implementing this system in that zone only. The Rikti may have left themselves vulnerable by trying to protect themselves. If our experts can get enough samples of the Rikti orders, it could allow them to break the Rikti codes.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Search for Rikti in Crash Site
    • Defeat 50 Rikti

Clue
Written Rikti orders

You found this sheet of clear plastic with alien writing on it after a battle with some Rikti troops. It's most likely a set of orders for their soldiers.

Debriefing

Thank you for delivering this communication. It appears to be in a new code, but as more samples are gathered, decryption should become possible. What may be even more important is that the Rikti believe that their mental communication network has become compromised. This would entail not only an agency with operatives who could listen in, but who could also understand Rikti communication and break the secure command languages. That is beyond the ability any agency I am aware of.

Harass and destroy Rikti forces at every opportunity

Briefing

Though the Rikti Invasion is over, the battle against the Rikti forces on Earth continues. While stopping the long-terms plans of the Rikti is vital, it is also important to harass and destroy Rikti forces at every opportunity. I have been asked to request your continued assistance in the battle with Rikti forces due to your past successes.

You may exercice your sanction against any Rikti targets at any opportunity. The continued pressure from a hero of your stature should be more than sufficient, regardless of its time and place.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Harass Rikti forces
    • Defeat 50 Rikti

Debriefing

My superiors would like to extend their thanks. The menace of the Rikti still pose to the safety and security of humanity cannot be overstated, and it would not be possibleto combat them effectively without the support of the meta-human community.
