Overview

Woodvale Brochure is a tip contact that offers Tour Guide Missions in Eden.

Introduction

Adam in Waiting

Exploration Mission

This aesthetically pleasing brochure invites you to visit Woodvale, Paragon City's definitive suburban development, with beautiful photos of the area. You look up from the pictures, fairly certain you are looking at the same place, but the current reality could not be any different.

Hamidon's paradise stretches before you: a vast, lush, even beautiful, expanse of forest. But its serene atmosphere belies how dangerous this place is. The Devouring Earth are ever vigilant, dismembering any who make the mistake of straying into their 'Eden'.

  • Behold the garden of Hamidon's 'Eden'.
  • Resist temptation for now.

Too Busy

You are fascinated by the strange landscape before you. However, until you address some tasks, it will have to wait.

No More Missions

You fold up the brochure, having had your fill of Eden's beautiful splendor and her lethal keepers. The threat of the Devouring Earth leaves you feeling both fear, wonderment, and melancholy.

Call of Nature

Briefing

There is a distinct point on the map where the brochure ceases to be accurate in any capacity. The precipice lies at the western edge of the 'Arcadia' neighborhood ruins, with Hamidon's sprawling paradise expanding out into the horizon beyond.

While pressing into uncharted territory is daunting, the Devouring Earth are a threat that cannot be left unchecked. To this end, steeling yourself to the reality of the situation within 'Eden' is paramount.

  • Resist the Call of Nature.

Good or evil, the Hamidon's forces will consume all if they are not confronted here and now.

Unless a future that sees humanity subjugated in the form of the Devoured monstrosities sounds appealing, it is in everyone's best interest to halt the Devouring Earth's encroaching expansion.

Mission Objective

  • Stand at Arcadia's edge

In the distance you can hear the ululating cry of the Devouring Earth and something about it speaks to a primal, ancient, part of you. You can understand how some might be seduced by this call and stray into their embrace to be devoured. There is something almost hypnotic about it; being summoned by a power greater than you, older than you, and somehow welcoming, as though the Devouring Earth offer a unity unattainable anywhere else on this world.

Crey Fish

Briefing

The brochure has a proclamation about the Crey Industries Utopia Complex campus in the area, where the philanthropic corporation "seeks to improve the lives of each and every citizen within the magnificent Woodvale." If you rolled your eyes any harder, they might escape the confines of your noggin.

The overgrowth seems to thin out as you get closer to the facility's mapped location. Given Crey's involvement, there could be hazardous materials (likely illegal) remaining within the abandoned structures. It would be prudent to confirm nothing dangerous was left unattended that could trigger any further disasters.

  • Catch any forgotten Crey Fish.

If there was a singular name that is likely elicit a response from the creatures of 'Eden' and ignite the Hamidon's fury it would probably be "Crey". Their capacity for environmental destruction and local contamination is second to none.

No shortage of people in Paragon City hold them responsible for the Devouring Earth's crusade against humanity.

Mission Objective

  • Secure Utopia Complex campus

Surprisingly it was the Devouring Earth, not Crey, that caused Woodvale to become the overrun Eden.

Hive Mind

Briefing

You are trying to read over this brochure but have an intense headache that has been relentlessly gnawing at your brain since you arrived within 'Eden'. You suspect something unnatural is at work here, as this static in your mind hangs thick in the air.

If you close your eyes and clear your thoughts, you can begin to sense a faint resonance, indicating the origin point of the malicious signal. Defiantly, you start heading in its direction; You will find the source of this; the Devouring Earth will not stand in your way!

  • Oppose buzz of the Hive Mind.

If you had to hazard a guess, it is likely this phenomenon is a side effect of the proximity of 'Eden' to 'The Hive', where the Hamidon itself hides away.

The heavy concentration of Devouring Earth creatures and the malevolent influence by which their efforts are coordinated are probably to blame for this migraine.

Mission Objective

  • Seek source of psionic resonance

The buzz of the Devouring Earth hive mind is especially powerful here. It sets one's nerves on edge. You can feel it as a pain behind your eyes, as though something were trying to worm its way into your consciousness. You wonder how long you could stay here and remain unaffected. How long you could hold out before the overpowering will of Hamidon found its way into you and made you one of them?

Natural Law

Briefing

There's a section in the brochure dedicated to details on the Circuit Court of Woodvale, once the seat of justice in this area. Looking up and towards the direction marked on the map, you cannot imagine any judicial proceedings have occurred in quite some time. The only law in this place now is the order decreed by the Hamidon.

All the same, the impressive looking buildings do catch your attention. Given the Devouring Earth have yet to reduce them to rubble, do the creatures find some use for them? A quick investigation should not take much time.

  • Witness Natural Law.

You wonder if the Hamidon and his Devouring Earth legions have some sort of internal justice system. Do the Razorvine and Bladegrass monsters have to fulfill jury duty summons? Does the defense call Fungoid to the stand to testify? These important thoughts fill your head as you move towards your destination.

Mission Objective

  • Experience Hamidon's justice

Before you are the steps that once led to the Circuit Court of Woodvale, a bastion of law and order. But a new law rules here, one with rules as ancient as the planet's core, and in this court all of humanity has been found guilty.

Natural Selection

Briefing

Comparing the horizon to a picture in the brochure, everything that has been reclaimed by the Devouring Earth in their master's name is beautiful yet emanates a hostile malevolence that threatens all who stray near its splendor. In particular are the enormous spires of stone that rise into the sky. Both magnificent and ominous, they herald the Hamidon's dominion over this land.

It is undeniable that these landmarks are not natural; they are responsible for much of this land's otherworldly ambience. You are curious if they are actually even made of real stone. You recall a few accessible pillars and decide to inspect them yourself.

  • Defy Natural Selection.

These stone pillars are the topic of much debate. Some believe they are merely monuments erected to establish the Devouring Earth's conquest. Others are certain they have functional importance to Hamidon's control of his minions.

Perhaps you will find some clues once you have had a chance to inspect them in person.

Mission Objective

  • Inspect Devouring Earth spires

It is difficult to remain unaffected by the display of Hamidon's might. How could anyone not feel a sense of awe at the majesty present in the towering spires of rock, the primeval forest you can practically watch growing before your very eyes? How anyone could not feel insignificant before it is a mystery. But then you realize that this is merely another seduction perpetrated by Hamidon, to weaken your resolve and steal from you the urge to resist the Devouring Earth and the danger they represent.

Nature's Wrath

Briefing

Trying to compare the brochure's "befores" to 'Eden's "afters" is proving difficult. Consistently, the rising curtain of trees obscures the landscape too much to have any chance to gain an understanding of the area's layout. The land around you seethes with Devouring Earth intent.

After a few ill-fated ventures had you getting turned around, you spy a potential spot where the geography might actually work with you for a change. If you can reach that hill, perhaps you might finally find your bearings within this bizarre place.

  • Behold Nature's Wrath.

As you approach the hill, you get an uneasy feeling. Normally, you could trust a hill to just be a hill, but within the Hamidon's garden, a seemingly natural formation could be anything but.

It is certainly possible you are overthinking things, but doing so has kept you alive thus far, so it is a habit worth keeping.

Mission Objective

  • Seek the Pit's viewpoint

This hill rises like a blister above the canopy that spread like a green plaque to devour Woodvale. This is a good vantage point to see the devastation the Devouring Earth have wrought. But it is also strangely calm, an oasis of quiet in a sea of slavering monstrosities. You are not sure why this hill is so devoid of danger, perhaps it is a true reflection of what the Devouring Earth have to offer. But such thoughts are borderline insane and likely planted there by some trick of Hamidon's making.

The Devouring Earth Abides

Briefing

You turn the map on the brochure upside-down but the forests in this region are far too dense for the landmarks to be of any navigational help. You feel an uncomfortable hostility emanating from the woods around you, as if they are just waiting for you to come closer.

The trees here cannot be trusted. Every living plant in this entire ecosystem is likely under the Hamidon's thrall. Despite this danger, having some more contemporary maps of this area would certainly prove useful for any non-Devouring Earth travelers making their way in 'Eden'. Spending some time charting the pathways between the thickets would be worthwhile.

  • See where The Devouring Earth Abides.

It is a high-risk game, maneuvering through the 'Eden' forests. Every sentient tree in these groves would love the opportunity to crush you mercilessly. Fortunately, you have the intellectual edge on these Devouring Earth saplings. Being this close is the last thing they will expect. The closer you are to danger, the farther you are from harm!

Mission Objective

  • Survey Devouring Earth forests.

Strange whispers echo through this sheltered vale, a place where the Devouring Earth rest and meditate, receiving strange missives from their lord and master: Hamidon. If you listen hard enough you can catch brief glimmers of understanding. Hamidon speaks to his children and urges them to be patient, that the time to take back what is rightfully theirs will soon be here. How does one reckon time when they are immortal? What is "soon" to something with a life-span measured in millennia?

Unspoiled

Briefing

The brochure states that much of the Cascade region's topography was "cleared away" to make room for more development. This apparently included several beautiful waterfalls. You have no doubt this would have drawn the Hamidon's ire more than anything else.

Taken by a curious thought, you wonder: if the Hamidon retook this district to restore the area's natural ecosystem and features, would the Devouring Earth have gone so far as to painstakingly recreate those waterfalls as they once were? This question burns in your mind as you head to northwestern 'Eden' to find out.

  • See if Unspoiled nature was returned.

The restoration of such beautiful natural landmarks is something that only the Hamidon could be capable of. However, that very line of thinking would bolster the Devouring Earth's cause by justifying their actions.

As regrettable as humanity's actions have been in the past, a future secured by their annihilation is equally unacceptable. You cannot allow this 'Eden' to claim any more of Paragon City.

Mission Objective

  • Check for Cascade waterfalls

The beauty that is Eden Falls came at a terrible price.
