Overview

Gravity Control is one of the power sets. It is a primary powerset for Controllers and Dominators. Template:UnlockController

This power set allows you to manipulate the forces of gravity to control your foes. Enemies have little defense against gravity powers.

Power Table

Controller, Dominator

The Gravity Control Power Set is available as a primary set for Controllers and Dominators. The following table shows what Powers are available and at which levels:

Power Level Effect
Crush 1 Ranged, Moderate DoT(Smash), Foe Immobilize, -Fly
Lift 1 Ranged, Moderate DMG(Smash)
Gravity Distortion 2 Ranged, Moderate DoT(Smash), Foe Hold, -Fly
Propel 6 Ranged, High DMG(Smash), Foe Knockback
Crushing Field 8 Ranged (Targeted AoE), Minor DoT(Smash), Foe Immobilize, -Fly
Dimension Shift 12 Toggle, Ranged (Location AoE), Foe Intangible
Gravity Distortion Field 18 Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe Hold
Wormhole 26 Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe Teleport, Disorient, Knockback
Singularity 32 Summon Singularity: Ranged Control Special

Powers

The following are powers in the Gravity Control powerset.

GravityControl Crush.png Crush

Creates a localized gravitational field strong enough to Immobilize a single foe. Crush can also bring down flying entities. This power deals Smashing damage over time and can Slow the movement of targets that escape its grasp.

GravityControl CrushingField.png Crushing Field

Creates a large gravitational field strong enough to Immobilize multiple foes. Crushing Field can also bring down flying entities. Slower and less damaging than Crush, but can capture multiple targets. Crushing Field deals Smashing damage over time and can Slow the movement of targets that escape its grasp.

GravityControl DimensionShift2.png Dimension Shift

Location-targeted AoE toggle. This power folds space in an area, immobilizing and phasing all targets within the sphere. Enemies who enter the area become immobilized and phased for the duration of the effect. Allies who enter the sphere's area of effect will enter the phase as well, allowing them to combat phased enemies. Detoggling this power ends the effect, bringing the phased creatures back into the physical world. Maintaining this dimensional distortion is taxing on the user, and cannot be done for more than 20 seconds.

GravityControl Lift.png Lift

Negates the gravity around a single target. Lift violently sends an enemy straight into the air, then slams them to the ground for Smashing damage. This power can bring flying foes to the ground, and can deal bonus damage when used against targets held by Gravity Distortion.

GravityControl Singularity.png Singularity

You can create a very powerful Gravitational Singularity. The Singularity will engage your foes, assaulting them with various gravity powers. Any foes that attempt to approach the Singularity will be violently hurled away. The Singularity cannot be healed, but is highly resistant to all forms of damage and nearly impervious to Controlling type powers. Type /release_pets in the chat window to release all your pets.

Editor's Note:

Though it cannot be healed, the Singularity may have its health Regeneration increased normally. It is virtually immune to Hold, Sleep, Disorient, Immobilize, Knockback, Knockup, and Repel effects, but not to other effects such as Fear and Confuse. It is virtually immune to Toxic and Psionic damage and highly resistant to all other types. Singularity is also intangible to other players; they are able to walk through it, unlike other Pets.

GravityControl Wormhole.png Wormhole

You can open a gravitational Wormhole behind a targeted foe and violently push them, and all nearby foes, through it. The victims are sent flying out the other end of the Wormhole and are left Disoriented. You determine the location of the Wormhole's end, and can place it high in the air if desired. More powerful foes may be resistant to the Wormhole effects.

Notes

  • The objects retrieved by Propel vary. Known objects include: ashtrays, barrels, bathtubs, cars, chairs, computer monitors, coffins, couches, crates, drinking fountains, dumpsters, forklifts, gargoyles, globes, hospital beds, lamp posts, photocopiers, recycle bins, sculptures, shelves, shopping carts, spools of wire, statues, telephone poles, television sets, toilets, utility carts, walls, and more.

Historical

This section contains information about changes that took place in Homecoming: City of Heroes/Villains. It is provided for historical purposes.

  • This set has been in the game for Controllers since Issue 0.
  • This set was included with the original release of Dominators in Issue 6.
  • Singularity was added to the game on May 11, 2004. Before that, Wormhole was the level 32 power and the level 26 power was a team recall called Fold Space. Its Endurance cost was 71.25 and its Recharge time was 60 seconds.

GravityControl FoldSpace.png Fold Space

You can Fold Space in order to regroup your team. All teammates within 10,000 feet, and on the same map, will be teleported to you. You can also rescue a fallen teammate in a hostile location, as long as he is on the same map. This power costs much of your Endurance and can be interrupted.

Recharge Long
Minimum Level Archetypeicon controller.png 26 (Controller)
Effects Zone Range
Team Teleport
Enhancements Reduce Endurance Cost
Enhance Range
Increase Attack Rate
  • When Singularity was introduced, it had a Dimension Shift power that was removed on June 3, 2004. Currently, Singularity still accepts Intangibility Enhancements.
  • Issue 22 and Issue 22 Patch 1 updated the way Gravity Control powers work:
    • Dimension Shift is a 20-second, location-based toggle that immobilizes enemies, and phases both allies and enemies, in the area. All characters in the area are free to attack enemies (and are attackable by enemies). Characters can choose to stay safe outside the location, or to move between phases. The toggle can be prematurely turned off to remove the phase effect early. Recharge time reduced from 90 seconds to 60 seconds.
    • Lift (Controllers only) increased in damage.
    • Propel casts faster, the projectile travels faster, and does "splash knockdown" on up to three more enemies near the target.
    • Wormhole's radius increased and will no longer cause aggro on the caster.
    • Singularity's cast times reduced for Crush and Gravity Distortion, and Lift increased in damage.
    • Impact! introduced: Enemies attacked with Lift or Propel will have bonus damage applied if the enemy has been recently held by Gravity Distortion (regardless of who cast Gravity Distortion).
  • Prior to Issue 22, Dimension Shift was a sphere-based targeted AoE power that both phased and immobilized enemies for a given length of time. Allies were not affected by the power.
