In collaboration with @AboveTheChemist the Experience page has received a major update. Motivated primarily by the controversy over at the Homecoming Forums described previously (that was later discredited), I decided it was time someone actually sat down and figured out the formula the game uses to calculate XP... and that is the major update to this page. | |||
I've tested all the relevant numbers and they check out. During my last test, I did see some oddities in the log file... multiple awards of XP but without any indication of where the XP came from (no mention of defeating any mobs). Also I had difficulty accounting for the amount of XP from several mobs at the very end of my run. There are multiple variables in the XP formula, so I might have simply not hit on the right mix of factors. Either that, or there is something else going on... maybe debt changing the numbers or some other factor I haven't considered. In any case, the formula was accurate in all other cases, so I'm very confident that the formula is valid. It's possible there is another thing that needs to be factored in, but it's more likely I just haven't hit on the right set of variables in my calculations. The end of the run was very chaotic... people dropping out of the team, players leaving the map, but still in the team, etc. If I am ever able to account for those oddities, I'll update this page. Removed outdated stuff
Previous discussions (now archived) mentioned that much of the article was outdated. Those concerns were raised a year ago and nothing was updated. Rather than leaving outdated information in the article, I've removed much of it. If anyone can re-add it with correct data, please do. Also, can anyone verify whether the information that remains is valid? I'm somewhat suspect of the Experience Rewards Table, especially with all of the asterisks floating about it. -- Sekoia 21:58, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Re-adding Outdated Tag
During a related discussion on Inf gain for low level players, a test was run to see XP gain and Inf gain at level 25 on both minions and lieuts to check for another issue. We instead discovered the XP gain rates are higher on HC (and likely all SCORE based servers unless they've manually edited them back down again). https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/49544-aggressively-reduce-price-of-basic-enhancements/?do=findComment&comment=626482 Thus, the page is outdated. - I reverted the changes based on some limited testing I performed on Brainstorm (https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/49800-request-for-a-dev/?do=findComment&comment=626672), which shows that XP rates are apparently not higher on HC. If other testing contradicts my findings, or if info provided by a dev in that thread I linked indicates otherwise, then it may be appropriate to modify the XP table. --AboveTheChemist (talk) 05:54, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- I wanted to check in with this, over on the forum thread you mentioned "I also pulled the XP reward data from the leaked i24 data files, and I do see some discrepancies with the experience data that is on the wiki. This is particularly true of the data below level 25. It may mean nothing, but I will do a little more data gathering to find out." Did your data turn up any significant discrepancies, and if so, shouldn't we re-add the WIP template again until we get the proper numbers? --Lockely (talk) 19:55, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- I did some extensive testing last weekend and while there are some discrepancies, they are relatively minor. I haven't had much time this week to devote to it but I'll catch back up with BlackSpectre and update the wiki with my findings, probably this weekend. --AboveTheChemist (talk) 21:11, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

In collaboration with @AboveTheChemist the Experience page has received a major update.
