Overview
Your archetype is arguably the most important choice you make while creating a hero or a villain. It determines which powers are—and aren't—available for you to use during the entire lifetime of your character. The decision of which archetype to play should be made based on what type of philosophy you wish to use for your character.
City of Heroes Archetypes
When you first make a character, you may select one of five available archetypes.
Blaster
Controller
Defender
Scrapper
Tanker
After a Hero character reaches level 20, two more archetypes become available.
City of Villains Archetypes
When you first make a character, you may select one of five available archetypes.
Brute

Stalker
After a Villain character reaches level 20, two more archetypes become available.
