The Valiant Defenders of the Motherland (Отважные Защитники Родины) is the first Russian hero supergroup founded after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Valiant Defenders were founded in 1993 in Moscow. Statesman acted as a consultant in the group's origin and attended the group's official founding ceremony.

Rebecca Foss, the wealthy founder of Hero Corps, also attended the ceremony. It it speculated that the profit derived from Valiant Defenders merchandise in Russia contributed to her idea of founding a for-profit hero supergroup in Paragon City.
