Overview

Buried Treasure Hunt is a tip contact that offers Tour Guide Missions in Talos Island.

Introduction

Island Hopper

Exploration Mission

When the colossal Talos and the monstrous Chimera crashed into the bay, it led to certain effects being seen in the aftermath. Their seismic impact obliterated sections of the ancient city of Oranbega beneath. This flooded the tunnels, washing away an uncountable number of relics and artifacts into the local waters.

To this day the area is frequently being salvaged by enthusiasts for anything of value that surfaces, much to the Circle of Thorns' chagrin.

  • Dig up the next big thing on Talos Island.
  • Size things up later.

Too Busy

If you were Talos himself, handling all these tasks at once would likely prove trivial. But sized as you are now, it would be prudent to take care of some of them first.

No More Missions

You look at all your recent finds... but most of them are just odd metal scraps and useless junk. All this searching and you did not find a single valuable Oranbegan artifact? Bummer... You decide your time is better spent elsewhere at this point

Missions

Minotaur

Briefing

Inspecting the piece of white granite in your hand, you suspect this is not a piece of treasure at all. This is likely a piece of the Talos memorial monument.

You can only assume some tourist thought they would take a souvenir or some other sort of minor vandalization. Returning it would make for a nice reason to inspect the statue a little closer.

  • Return the Minotaur's 'treasure'.

One has to wonder if the memorial statue is size-accurate to how Talos was in actuality.

After weighing the pros and cons of having that massive size at your disposal, you decide it is probably better being the height you are.

Mission Objective

  • Size up the Talos statue

While wrestling with the Chimera in the waters of the bay, Talos tore a rift in the ocean floor. Although the hero never rose from the waters, the island that formed was named in his honor.

Nature Lover

Briefing

The villain you just clobbered had a bag of seeds on them labeled Mechanus Orchids. After turning it over, you see a little bit of trivia printed on the back: "A local Talos specialty. this new breed of orchid bloomed around the area where Woodsman used his nature powers to vanquish Mechanus."

Knowledge is a type of treasure too, you decide to go learn more about the history behind these seeds.

  • Become local Nature Lover

You do a little local investigating and discover the location where Woodsman triumphed over this robotic menace -- an undeveloped outskirt, where the unusual silver orchids saw their debut.

It sounds like a nice break to go visit that area and enjoy the local flora for a change of pace.

Mission Objective

  • See where Mechanus fell
Badge
Nature Lover / Eco-warrior (2671.5, 124.0, 9118.0)[Copy]

Mechanus was one of Woodsman's greatest enemies. It was on this spot that the champion of nature defeated the artificially intelligent robot for the final time.

Whitecap

Briefing

There was a vessel logbook in the pocket of the thug you just dropped. You spend a minute flipping through it. Just a cursory glance through all the recent entries shows the cargo ship called the Alba Varden has worked with almost every local villain group in the area.

While not the kind of treasure you were looking for, this is a nice find all the same!

  • Find tanker amongs the Whitecaps.

You cross-reference the logbook's notes with a few of your local contacts and discover where the Alba Varden should be right now. Looks like it is out at sea, but not too far, you should still be able to reach it.

Time to make an off shore house call.

Mission Objective

  • Track down the Alba Varden at sea

The cargo ship Alba Varden tends to be a hotbed of criminal activity.

Last Line of Defense

Briefing

You look over the salvage in your hand. This looks more like a scrap of Rikti technology than anything of archaeological value... After showing it to a few locals and asking around, you are told that the center hill on the island was host to a massive face-off against the invaders during the Second Rikti War.

Since then, finding odd bits of Rikti metal is not that uncommon on Talos Island. You decide to check out this battleground for yourself.

  • See the Last Line of Defense.

Relatively speaking, the Second Rikti War was not that long ago, but you'd have to assume Vanguard thoroughly collected everything Rikti-related of any real value.

Still... you roll the cold metal alloy between your fingers... this is a pretty neat find!

Mission Objective

  • Stand atop Rikti battlefield

During the Second Rikti War, this hill was used by heroes as a gathering point to fight off the Rikti in Talos. Despite the large Rikti numbers, the heroes managed to repel them time after time from this very spot, allowing the rest of Talos Island's citizens to get to safety.

The Old Me

Briefing

It's hard not to get excited after picking up a crudely drawn map with a red X on Circe Island. Now this is the kind of treasure hunting everyone hopes to experience! After flipping the map over, you notice a newspaper article clipping stapled to the back: "Body of Ajax recovered after recent developments."

Looks like somebody was digging into something regarding the former Omega Team hero. You had heard he was literally invincible, so what's this about a body?

  • Find out more about Ajax.

Taking some time to look through the information available online, it appears the original Ajax was somehow killed and replaced. How this was managed when he was supposedly "invincible" is under much speculation.

You decide it is time to go see what the map was pointing to.

Mission Objective

  • See what was buried at Circe Island

This area is where the real Ajax was buried, after being killed by the thug Ralph Valetti, who stole his identity as well as his powers. After the revelation was made, officials rushed to recover Ajax's body, which is now preserved in an unknown area within the city.

Bridge Holder

Briefing

You flip the fancy bronze coin you just found in the air a few times; it has a nice weight to it. Inspecting it a little closer, it appears to be a collector coin from a series with different heroes on them.

The face of the coin shows the lettering: The Commuter with a vague depiction, the reverse has a small description: "Defender of the Talos-Paragon bridge; The automobile's hero." It is curious as to who would try and target a bridge, maybe some locals might know.

  • Learn about the Bridge Holder.

You ask a few people in passing, but they just mention the western-facing road and recall it being one of those "military-like bad guys". Such minor details do not really narrow it down much, so you decide to go check on the bridge itself.

Maybe somebody who actually commutes across it would know.

Mission Objective

  • Discover identity of bridge attackers

The hero known as 'The Commuter' recently thwarted an attempt by the 5th Column to blow up this bridge. Some people in Paragon think the plot to destroy the bridge was ridiculous, but The Commuter insists that, 'this bridge means the world to all those who drive in and out of Talos everyday.'

Overtime Worker

Briefing

You examine a creepy figurine that was found earlier. As you turn over in your hand, it gives a really, really bad vibe. It seems to beckon forth a cold darkness in the distance. Showing it to some pedestrians has them nervously shaking their head and dismissing you.

An elderly woman approaches and looks down at the relic: "Found yourself something out of Astoria, eh? Even after the road was demolished... Take my advice, see that thing burned as soon as you can."

She walks away, and you find yourself wanting to inspect that darkness over Astoria a little more closely.

  • Accept being an Overtime Worker.

So this figurine is of Banished Pantheon origin... You will heed her suggestion and burn it, there is nothing to be gained from tampering with such primordial darkness.

Some evil goes deeper than simple villainy.

Mission Objective

  • Find a view of Dark Astoria's gate

After Dark Astoria was taken over by the Banished Pantheon, the construction workers of Paragon were ordered to demolish the road leading into the cursed city. The construction workers put in major overtime work to make it happen, and by week's end the road was gone, symbolizing that the city had left Astoria to the works of the Banished Pantheon.

Spanky's Competitor

Briefing

You turn the bit of plastic over. It looks old, but you are not sure what value it might have. It appears to be some sort of promotion for a Cooling Boardwalk? You were not aware of there being a second boardwalk on the island.

Some helpful locals point you in the direction of where this boardwalk was going to be built. They are not sure why exactly the progress on it ceased. The decision is made to dig into it and learn more.

  • Get the scoop on Spanky's Competitor.

The existing boardwalk with the peculiar name kind of has a monopoly on the concept, foot traffic, and business. It is almost too bad this alternative endeavor never made it far along. Though there is a definite curiosity about any underhanded factors at play that kept this competitor from gaining traction.

Mission Objective

  • See the unfinished second boardwalk
Badge
Spanky's Competitor (-2417.0, 160.8, 7963.5)[Copy]

This boardwalk was started some time ago by Robert Cooling, who was seeking to create an alternative to Spanky's Boardwalk on the other end of Talos, mainly because he hated the name 'Spanky's Boardwalk'. He was mentioned in the news for some time before he mysteriously 'disappeared.' The PPD closed the case after years of research when no sign of Robert Cooling could be found.
