Ghost of Scrapyard

Overview

Ghost of Scrapyard is a Giant Monster that can be found in as part of a Zone Event in Sharkhead Isle.

Background

Description

Now this is disturbing. Captain Mako tore this guy to pieces years ago, yet here he stands, smashing everything in his way with his spectral hammer. You really hope every cape who has felt your wrath doesn't pull this poltergeist routine. It'll be a busy decade if they do.

History

Genuinely dedicated to freeing the scrapyard workers from oppressive conditions by the Cage Consortium, Scrapyard led a group of enraged miners across the island, rallying supporters to their cause. The pinnacle of this rebellion was the ill-fated protest march through the streets of Sharkhead. Unknown to Scrapyard and his followers, Cage had hired a local pirate and bounty hunter known as Captain Mako to stop the march. In order to halt the protest, Mako attacked Scrapyard with vicious precision. Although grievously injured, Scrapyard continued to lead the workers and so Mako tormented him, attacking again and again as he struggled through the streets. Bloodied and broken, Scrapyard led the horrified miners to the now infamous Pier 7 where Mako finally dismembered him. This act of brutal cruelty drew the attention of Lord Recluse who sought out Mako, seeking to harness this feral killer for himself.

Scrapyard's ghost can be found wandering the streets of Sharkhead Isle. Scrapyarders will rally behind him in their protest against the Cage Consortium and their working conditions.

Zone Event

Scrapyarders can be found traveling to the grave of Scrapyard in Potter's Field to collect protest signs, then found protesting to the North and South outside the cemetery. When 100 Scrapyarders have been defeated by players the Ghost of Scrapyard will rise from his grave and the channel Villain Zone Event Messages will display the text Miner strike in progress in Sharkhead Isle. details needed, are these the event spawned protesting Scrapyarders near Potter's Field or any Scrapyarders in Sharkhead Isle or surrounding area?

The Ghost of Scrapyard will rally his followers and march around Sharkhead Isle until he has been defeated.

Notes

This section contains information that no longer applies to the current version of Homecoming: City of Villains. It is provided for historical purposes.

The old process for the Ghost of Scrapyard to appear was unclear for a long time until the Giant Monster Guide was released, but still questions remained as to why it so infrequently triggered compared to other zone events.

The event would spawn groups of Scrapyarders nearby to travel to the Scrapyard gravesite in Potter's Field, where they would pick up protest signs and walk back to their spawn area. The Ghost of Scrapyard spawning required a large number of these event spawned Scrapyarders to be within the vicinity of Scrapyard's grave at one time; however, several factors could result in this number not being reached including:

  • Scrapyarders being defeated by other enemies in the area.
  • Scrapyarders being defeated by players that did not know how the event worked and assumed defeating Scrapyarders would help.
  • Scrapyarders getting stuck on world geometry either delaying their arrival being synced with other groups or preventing it altogether.

These issues lead to the appearance of the Ghost of Scrapyard being rare and inconsistent, frustrating since the associated defeat badge was tied to unlocking an Accolade. The method for spawning the Ghost of Scrapyard was changed to it's current form in Issue 26 Page 2 to fix these problems.
