Description

Bred for battle, Marauder loves nothing more than fighting and destroying his enemies. Most perceive that he serves Tyrant like a vicious dog but, only follows the leader of the Praetorians for the slaughter.

Overview History

Michael White has always been the strongest and toughest man on the block, so when the Hamidon Wars threatened to ravage the Earth, White did what he did best—he fought back. Forming a ragtag group of fighters as the world was ending was no easy task, but through strength and determination, he did just that. He adopted the name Marauder and led his squad across the West. Under his watchful eye, thousands survived where none should have.

Impressed with his initiative and dedication, Emperor Cole granted Marauder the title of Praetor of Security. With his new role, Praetor White has been tasked with stamping out the Resistance, a job the Praetorian Police Department doesn't seem capable of handling alone. To combat this menace, he has formed the Powers Division, a team of super-powered individuals handpicked by Praetor White himself. There is only one rule in the Powers Division: The strong make the rules.

Full History

Michael White grew up with one rule: The strong make the rules. His youth was spent joining petty street gangs and fighting rival gangs. There his size and strength were feared and earned him respect. When the Hamidon Wars began and the world fell into chaos, White saw an opportunity to rebuild the world stronger than before.

In the face of global annihilation, the land had turned lawless. White traveled the American Midwest, gathering whatever survivors he could find. He adopted the name Marauder and led his people in a long, bitter fight for survival. His self-appointed job was to restore order where chaos had taken hold. Only Marauder could muster any sort of authority in the region.

As Marauder traveled from town to town, city to city, he encountered more and more anarchy and was forced to stamp out petty raiders, warring gangs, and self-absorbed warlords. As the major population centers were overcome with the Devouring Earth, Marauder was the only thing standing between the scores of refugees and certain death. He saved as many as he could.

After the wars ended and Hamidon had been defeated, Emperor Cole and his Praetorian Guard came over the Rockies, uncertain if they would find any survivors. What they found amazed them. Not only had the people survived, they had managed to thrive under Marauder's leadership and strength. Normal men and women without super powers had defied the odds. Cole was duly impressed.

For his uncommon valor, Michael White was offered a place at Emperor Cole's side as head security of the new world order. He reluctantly left his flock, saying farewell to his brave comrades-in-arms, and embraced his new calling to shepherd the safety of all Praetoria. The years of hardship had paid off, and now Michael White is living his dream of a stronger, safer world.

It is only used on targets which are at a distance away from Marauder and does not require line of sight.

Information

Commander of the PPD Powers Division

Praetor White claims the title of Commander of the Praetoria Police's Powers Division, the 'Power Police'. As leader of the Praetorian Police Department's Powers Division, he helps train all the new hopefuls. In doing so, he has the greenhorns fight amongst themselves to establish rank. It is strongly encouraged to challenge others, especially your superiors. Because of this the streets are full of green Powers Division recruits trying to get a leg up. Known as Marauder during the darkest days of the Hamidon Wars, White is well known throughout the city and respected as much as he is feared.

Prior to Introduction

Well, well, well, what do we have here? No, seriously, who are you? I don't have you on my Powers Division recruits roster. You'd better go sort that out because it is not my job to make sure you can sign your name on the forms.

Initial Contact

Listen up, 'cause I'm only going to say this once. Praetoria City's filled with yappin' little dogs like you. And do you know who I am? I'm the top dog. Keep that in mind and maybe you'll get to hang out in my pack. You put all the other dogs in their place and you get noticed. Don't and you get to sleep in the back alleys. Get what I'm sayin'?

The name's Mr. White, but between me and you, you can call me Mr. White. Got it? While Emperor Cole's off saving the world, I'm in charge of the muscle. I work hard to keep this city safe from the tunnel rats who think they can take away all we've worked for. That's where my Powers Division comes into play. I'm the Division, and all of you guys are my Power.

Now that we got that straight, stop with the jibberjabber and let's get down to business.

Greeting

I've got five good reasons why you shouldn't bother me. If you keep bugging me, I'll show them to you all at once.

Too Busy

I suggest you take care of your other business and take care of it fast. When Marauder's got something for you to do, you don't keep him waiting, got it?

Too Low Level

I ain't got time for you, fool! Get out there and keep Nova Praetoria safe from criminal punks, you got it?

Souvenir

Joining the Pack

You remember all too well the slap on the shoulder that Praetor White gave you after you proved yourself to him through a process he called...

Joining the Pack

In the aftermath of the Resistance attack on PPD Precinct 5 you reported to Praetor White as instructed. The big man was annoyed by the phyrric victory the PPD had managed to pull off against the Resistance attack. But he was even more disturbed that the entire affair turned out to be a diversion to allow a Resistance strike team to infiltrate the Ministry of Technology and take some of the leading scientists hostage. He sent you in to disarm the situation without leveling the entire building, but when you took down the Resistance fighters you discovered that they had no intention of leaving the building alive.

With the PPD patrols in the tunnels tripled it didn't take long for them to stumble into more than they could handle. You were ordered to come to the rescue of a PPD search team lead by Sergeant Hastings. When you found Hastings he informed you that he had critical information regarding Resistance plans to attack the Ministry of Information.

With the Resistance plans foiled for the time being, Praetor White gave you a task of a more personal nature: getting some flowers for his lady, Cleopatra. At first you thought it might be a joke, but after hunting the flowers down and then delivering them to Cleopatra you understand why keeping her happy is in his best interest.

With the Praetor warming up to you and your no-nonsense style, he gave you the responsibility of inspecting Gravatech Labs. The only caveat was that the PPD were there overstepping the Praetor's jurisdiction with a surprise inspection of their own. You went into the laboratory to remind Captain Duval of where his jurisdiction ended and the Praetor's began, but it turns out that Duval and his entire entourage of PPD officers were actually Resistance fighters in disguise. After foiling their plot to steal sensitive information from the lab's databases you returned to Praetor White and were recognized as a member of his pack.

Part One: Acts of Desperation

This day just gets better and better!

We lost a lot of officers during the Resistance attack on Precinct 5 earlier. Then, to make matters worse, the dumb-as-dirt TPN media circus decides it would be a good idea to report on it and spin the pyrrhic victory into a 'crushing victory over the terrorists' center piece in today's news, so now a riot's broken out here in the Magisterium!

But to top it all off the Resistance used the battle as a distraction to get at their true objective, they've taken hostages in the Ministry of Technology.

I need you to get in there and rescue those hostages before someone important gets killed.

Mission Acceptance

I just can't believe how lax the PPD have gotten without us around. Well, maybe you can show them how it's done.

You know, I'd go in there and take care of it myself, I even have half a mind to do so anyway, but Cleo is right; I'd end up killing every coward in there and level the building, and that wouldn't do us any favors right now winning back the trust of the people.

Unnecessary Solicitation

I'm pretty sure those terrorists aren't going to stick around all day. If I were you I'd be in there busting heads right now. So get to it!

Mission Objective(s)

File:Map IOM COURTHOUSE ROOF.png
Map: IOM_COURTHOUSE_ROOF

The Ministry of Technology is quieter than normal, though you can hear muffled voices shouting somewhere up ahead.

  • Rescue Hostages in the Ministry of Technology
    • Rescue the Hostages
    • Rescue Dr. Tanner!
    • Defeat the Resistance Leader

You rescued the hostages! Return to Praetor White for debriefing.

  • Dr. Suto (Non-escort Hostage)
  • Dr. Hansen (Non-escort Hostage)
  • Dr. Tanner (Non-escort Hostage)
  • Ford (The Resistance Veteran) (Lieutenant)

You found a small device in Ford's pocket.

Clue
Suicide Mission

After taking Ford down you found a small audio device in one of his pockets. You flip it on and hear his voice say the following:

To whatever chomper this is, you're probably tossin' a shadow over my corpse right now. If not, the you missed the party.

My name is... well, it was Ford. But nobody gives a puff what my real name was, so it doesen't float to ponder on it.

We red riding hooded into the Ministry of Technology knowin' we'd all get corpsed. So you must be grindin' gears as to why we do it.

We did it to send a big old message out to the sheeple here in Praetoria City. No matter how fluffy the names are, these government agencies don't work for you, they work to enslave you. Open your peepers and rub the sleep from 'em.

Can you even cogitate what went through our heads to do this? The hours and days we took reflecting on ourselves to come to the decision to deliver a message that only our corpses alone could deliver?

Or do you even know what happened to us? We brave few who took a jab against the emperor's stack of cards... did TPN even pipe this story into your brains?

Wake up! The gold and whitewash isn't that thick. Dig a little, and you'll find the dirt underneath, and the bodies this city is really built upon.

The wars are over, Cole. Give the people back the freedom they entrusted to you... or do you not trust us in return?

The message ends there.

Debriefing

Character. You didn't get yourself killed. Good job taking down those scum bags...

What's this? A recording?

Praetor White listens to the message Ford recorded. Without a second thought he crushes the device in his gigantic metal hand and dumps the pieces on the ground for a cleaner bot to take care of and then snarls.

Those Resistance fighters knew they were on a one way ticket into the Ministry and they went in anyway.

Those damn fools are fighting for the wrong side! Why, I'd strangle my own mother for dedication like that in the PPD! Instead, here I am in charge of a damn peace corps who ain't fought a real fight in their lives!

If this is any indication of the future, then I got the feeling that everything is about to change, Character, and not at all for the better...

You have a phone on you? Good. Call me on my direct line from now on. Gettin' kinda tired of looking at your face all the time.

Part Two: In Too Deep

Speaking of changes, the first thing I did this morning was triple the number of PPD patrols in the tunnels. Calvin Scott is still at large and we have reports that he is somewhere down there, along with a few Resistance staging areas.

Well I just got word that a PPD search team ran into some real trouble and need the kind of help that only Powers Division can offer. Seeing as how you're here and you can hold your own against that gutter trash, I'm sending you in to bring those fools out.

Find Officer Tepp. He's the one who retreated back into communication range and radioed for Powers Division help. Once you find him do what you can for the others.

Mission Acceptance

That's the fighting spirit. Get our boys out of there alive.

And another thing... Make those little tunnel rats wish they were never born.

Unnecessary Solicitation

You make those tunnel rats wish they weren't born yet?

Mission Objective(s)

File:Map P Tunnels 30 Layout 04 01.png
Map: P_Tunnels_30_Layout_04_01

Echoing up from the tunnels you hear the signature sound of resistance power guns blasting into a PPD deflector shield. You'd better hurry.

  • Rescue PPD in Tunnels
    • Link up with Officer Tepp
    • 2 more PPD Officers to rescue (optional)
    • Rescue Sergeant Hastings
    • Lead Sergeant Hastings out!

Mission Failure: You failed to rescue Sergeant Hastings and didn't learn what information he'd discovered.
Mission Success: You rescued Sergeant Hastings and the critical information he discovered.

Notable NPCs

  • Dumpster (Boss) (Guarding Sergeant Hastings)
  • Officer Hesh (Minion) (Ally)
  • Officer Rounds (Minion) (Ally)
  • Officer Tepp (Minion) (Ally)
  • Sergeant Hastings (Praetorian Police Department Sergeant) (Hostage, Escort to Exit)
Sergeant Hastings is a driven man, intent on repaying the Resistance for their treacherous attacks on Praetoria City and its citizens. To this end, he has organized every office he could find into search teams and sent them into the tunnels to root out and exterminate the Resistance wherever they're found.
Clue
Officer Tepp's Story

Officer Tepp told you the following:

Sergeant Hastings lead the twelve of us down here looking for the Resistance. Well, we sure found 'em. We'd discovered one of their make shift bases and raided it. Sarge said he found some interesting intel in one of their computers, but on the way back up topside we got ambushed. Before I knew what was going on, Sarge ordered me to head to the surface to call for help. Then Rounds, Heash and the Sarge all covered my escape. It wasn't until I got all the way up here that my comms started working again, so I called in for help The Resistance found me not too long after, but then you showed up. Oh, man, we've got to help the others!

Debriefing: Mission Failure

Ah, don't kick yourself, Character, those PPD morons got in over their heads. There's only so much you could do to save someone from their own stupidity.

At least now we know about where the Resistance are down there, and they've probably been there for some time.

As for this critical information Hastings discovered, we'll just have to redouble our defenses and hope they're enough. I'm not gonna worry about it until the bullets start flying, so if you are, don't do it around me.

Hopefully this little tragedy will filter through the PPD ranks and remind them that it will be Powers Division, not the beat cops, who are gonna end this little resistance movement.

Debriefing: Mission Success

Good job, Character. It sounds like Sergeant Hastings and his team discovered that the Resistance were planning a large coordinated attack on the Ministry of Information. Now that they know we know that, they'd be fools to try it.

Hrmm, first the Ministry of Technology, and now the Ministry of Information. I wonder what it is they're really after. The Resistance have shown that they have plans within plans and that what appears to be a full scale attack is actually just a diversion.

All in all it's not a bad day's work for the PPD. But hopefully this little adventure of theirs will filter through their ranks and remind them that it will be Powers Division, not the beat cops, who are gonna end this little resistance movement.

Part Three: Just as Sweet

Mission Briefing

Well, things seem to have calmed down a bit. At least, enough for me to feel comfortable sending you out for an errand while I keep my eye on things.

It ain't flashy but I need it done. Think of it as a personal favor for yours truly.

I need you to get me some flowers for my lady. Can I count on you?

  • Flowers? I didn't sign up for this!
Talk to the Flower Vendor

I didn't sign up for this either...

...

Listen, Character, when Cleo's unhappy, I'm unhappy, and nobody wants me unhappy, alright?

Now, head over to the flower vendor near the transit station and pick up some synthetic yellow roses. Cleo likes them best.

Unnecessary Solicitation

It's a simple task, Character. Stop whining and get the roses for my lady, alright?

Mission Objective(s)

  • Talk to the Flower Vendor

Briefing

Hello citizen! You are looking rather sharp today.

Perhaps I can interest you in some tulips or a nice floral arrangement for your domicile?

Everything in my selection is locally grown in the Neuron Technologies Unlimited synthetics facility; growing beauty smarter.

  • Ask about roses
Of course, let me see what I have available...
Oh, I apologize, citizen, I appear to be all out of roses.
Could I interest you in another product?
  • Ask about what else is in stock. (A)
Certainly, allow me to access my inventory...
Oh, I am terribly embarrassed, I appear to have nothing in stock at this time.
Could I interest you in another product?
  • Ask who bought all the flowers. (B)
I cannot give you the details on specific customers, citizen. However, I can tell you that there was quite a crowd of people here earlier and they purchased all of my inventory.
  • Ask where they went.
Certainly, citizen. A number of citizens purchased and then took their flowers with them to honor the people killed in yesterday's terrorist attacks.
Can I be of further assistance?
It looks as if you are going to have to go find your own roses in the Magisterium Gardens. Open your mini-map (hotkey 'M') to see where you can find roses in the Magisterium Gardens. They will show up as starburst icons on the mini-map.
  • Thank and leave.
  • What other product? You are all sold out!
Pardon me, citizen, allow me time to confirm your statement...
Ah, yes, my inventory does appear to be empty.
Is there something else I can help you with?
  • Ask who bought all the flowers
This selection loops to another branch of this conversation which is already documented. (B)
  • Ask about synthetically grown flowers
Certainly, citizen.
Neuron Technologies Unlimited is proud to provide the citizens of Praetoria City with the latest in their lineup of organo-synthetic products: Synth-Flora.
Synth-Flora products are superior to naturally grown flowers for a number of reasons: They smell better, have a more pleasing color, their lifespan is far superior to all naturally occurring species, and they are carefully screened for any sign of taint by Devouring Earth spores...
  • Ask about Synth-Flora roses.
Of course, let me see what I have available...
Oh, I apologize, citizen, I appear to be all out of roses.
Could I interest you in another product?
  • Ask about what else is in stock.
This selection loops to another branch of this conversation which is already documented. (A)
  • Tell it you want roses for Praetor White's lady
Certainly, citizen.
While I check my inventory, just between you and I, Praetor White has been a repeat customer of late. I surmise that his purchase of roses for his lady are part of a human mating ritual. If that is the case, might I suggest some chocolates to accompany the roses?
  • Accept the chocolates
Clue
A Box of Chocolates

It's only six pieces of chocolate, but this is the good stuff

Magnificent choice, citizen.
The combination of chocolates and roses has a 78% chance of a positive response. Much higher than just roses or chocolates alone.

Briefing

Well, well, well, what have we here?

  • Give Cleopatra the roses
For me?
Thanks suga' / sweetness, but what are these even for?
Oh, wait a moment here, I get it... Michael put you up to this, didn't he?

Oh, if Michael thought he was sorry before... he is going to be real sorry when I have a word with him later. That man has got to learn that you have to say the words for it to count.
  • Did I do something wrong?
This selection loops to another branch of this conversation which is already documented. (C)
  • No, actually, they're a gift from me. Who's Michael? (B)
Michael White, the Praetor. He's my boyfriend.
Anyhow, this is very sweet of you, handsome / beautiful, but frankly, I don't even know who you...
  • The name's Character
Well, alright, Character. It's a pleasure to meet you, and thank you for the gift, but I don't think Michael will appreciate you bringing me gifts, though I am flattered.
  • Michael doesn't have to know...
...
You don't seem to be getting the message, Character, so let me break it down to you, real simple.
Michael and I are together, and he will find out that one of his little pups brought me a gift, because I'm going to tell him. So you may want to rethink just exactly what it is you are doing here.
  • Actually, Michael sent me to get those for you, I've been having fun with you
Oh...
Oh, now that's funny. Wow, baby / girl, you really had me going there for a minute. I was like, this boy / girl cannot be this stupid...
Well, you can tell Michael thank you for the gift.

Clue
Cleopatra

You can see why Praetor White like Cleopatra. She's smart, sassy and fun. Of course, something tells you that she's got a really rough streak in her if she can keep the man once known as Marauder on a leash tight enough to make him give her gifts.

  • I'm just kidding. Praetor White had me get them for you
Hmmm. Well, the joke wasn't bad, honey / sweetness, but if Michael thought he was sorry before... he is going to be real sorry when I have a word with him later. That man has got to learn that you have to say the words for it to count.
  • Did I do something wrong? (C)
Oh, not at all honey / girlie. It's not you I'm mad at.
Now get back to Mister Alpha Dog and you tell him that the roses were a fine gift. No sense in having him throw a tantrum at you on account of our personal business.
  • Will you be alright? I mean, he is Praetor White.
Oh, don't you worry about me. There's two people in this world can handle my man; Emperor Cole and myself.
See you around, tiger / gorgeous.
  • Leave
Clue
Cleopatra

Hell hath no fury... You don't know what Praetor White did to get on Cleopatra's bad side, but you're glad she didn't kill the messenger. Actually, as long as you're not the Praetor, she seems like a pretty fun lady.

Debriefing

Did she like them?

Alright... Good. Dodged that bullet.

You know what, Character, you ain't half bad.

Finale: On Whose Authority

You may think that my job is pretty cushy, huh Character?

Well it isn't all flexing for cameras and sippin' mimosas with the lady, let me tell ya. Sometimes, being in charge, you have to deal with some real steaming piles of red tape.

And now is one of those times. I want you to head down to Gravatech labs. I've got a job down there that needs your attention for detail. Can I count on you?

Mission Acceptance

Listen, it's nothing fancy, just a routine inspection of the labs. The thing is, I got wind that a PPD squad went in there to inspect the labs, led by Captain Duval from Precinct 5.

The PPD aren't scheduled to inspect the place for a few weeks, which makes me suspicious. Duval could just be trying to flex his muscle a little to show that he can still handle the job, but it could be something else.

Everyone sees me from a mile off, someone always snitches that the big dog is coming, so this time, I'm sending you to do the inspection for me. Might help to have someone who isn't smashin' the front door down, you know?

Just be careful. Some of the PPD guys don't like that my Powers Division boys are better than them and they might see you as walking in on their jurisdiction. Show 'em your teeth and they'll back down, just try not to hurt any of 'em too badly, we're supposed to be working together afterall.

Unnecessary Solicitation

Don't make the same mistake I did when bearing your teeth. I once bit a guy that got too close. True story.

Mission Objective(s)

It would appear that your surprise inspection has caught everyone off guard.

  • Inspect Gravatech Labs
    • Talk to Captain Duval
    • Defeat Sergeant Callahan
    • Stop the Resistance Plot

You inspected Gravatech and foiled a Resistance plot. Return to Marauder for debriefing.

Enemies

Praetorian Police Department
Resistance

Notable NPCs

Captain Duval is younger than you expected, and he also appears somewhat nervous at your arrival.
Briefing

How can I help you?

  • I'm here to conduct Praetor White's inspection of this lab.

I see, how very unexpected.

Well, as you can see, we're inspecting the labs right now. So, there is no need for you to be here.

  • I'm under strict orders, Captain.

I see. That is unfortunate for you then.

  • You mean to push on the issue?

Not push, shove!

  • -Really-?

Duval wasn't himself, he was an imposter!

Clue
Captain Duval said chomp?

You weren't too surprised that the PPD jumped you when push came to shove, but you get a sneaking suspiction that Duval would never say "chomp". It appears that the PPD officers inspecting Gravatech Labs aren't police officers at all, they are Resistance imposters!

Clue
Resistance Plot

From the looks of it, the Resistance were planning on creating a distraction so that their PPD imposters could effortlessly walk into a number of important governmetn officers and raid them for sensitive material as well. It's a good thing you stopped them because the average citizen knows better than to question the actions of the PPD.

Clue
Stolen Gravatech Data

You found this stolen Gravatech Labs Data on the imposter posing as Justicar Easton. It would seem that the theft of the Gravatech Labs data was basically a field test to see if their disguises would work. If you hand't shown up, they very well might have.

Debriefing

So, the terrorists made a play for one of our labs... They're getting brave, or desperate. Either way it's dangerous.

We've got clockwork set on cutting through the cell doors to free the scientists they sealed in the labs below. They'll have a lot of questions to answer on how this all went down.

Looks like you handled yourself pretty well in there, Character, you cracked some skulls, saved the day, and walked away in one piece.

I dare say, you almost impressed me, which is more than I can say for 'Captain Duval'.

You know what, Character? I like how you're not afraid to get someone else's blood on your fists. From now on, I'll be looking the other way when you bust them up, if you know what I'm saying... heh.
