Overview

Your archetype is arguably the most important choice you make while creating a hero or a villain. It determines which powers are—and aren't—available for you to use during the entire lifetime of your character. The decision of which archetype to play should be made based on what type of philosophy you wish to use for your character.

City of Heroes Archetypes

From the City of Heroes Manual

Your archetype determines the nature of your powers. This choice will actually determine which power sets you can select for your primary and secondary powers.

You may select one of five available archetypes.
