Lord Winter's Realm is a Winter-themed co-op trial released as part of the Winter Event 2009. This trial requires 12 to 36 characters of level 10 or greater and can be accessed via the Team-Up Teleporter in the LFG Window, a selection on the Chat Window.

Description

Trial Details

The zone is actually five different zones for variety: each consisting of part of the iced-over Croatoa map like the one used in the Father Time mission. There is a Magic Portal in each of them allowing players to go from one version to another, which is intended to allow split teams to rejoin, though could be used if players prefer one particular map over the others. There are no Exploration badges or any other zone-specific rewards: it's simply a wintery wasteland filled with Winter Horde goons and Lord Winter himself. Heroes and Villains will both appear in the zone when they enter through the LFG menu and will do battle with Lord Winter together.

Enemy Groups

Lord Winter's Realm is populated entirely by the Winter Horde. Somewhere in the zone is Lord Winter himself, and he is the main attraction. The other enemies in the zone have a chance to drop Candy Cane Salvage when defeated.

Transfer Points

The only way into Lord Winter's Realm is via the LFG Menu during the Winter Event. Once inside, there is a Magic Portal that transfers players between the five different layouts. The portal is intended to allow split teams to rejoin, though can be used if players prefer one particular map over the others.

Once the event timer reaches zero, all Heroes will be transferred to Atlas Park and all Villains will be transferred to Mercy Island, unless they entered from PvP zones.

Strategy

When the Winter Lord's hit points are reduced to 75%, 50%, and 25%, he will summon the Winter Guardian, a smaller version of himself. It will run toward the players from somewhere on the map. While the Winter Guardian is at large, the Winter Lord is intangible and unable to be damaged. Players must defeat the Winter Guardian each time he spawns before returning to battle the Winter Lord again. When the Winter Lord reaches 0 hit points, the trial is over; all enemies despawn and players are awarded 20 candy canes and 6 reward merits, and have a chance of receiving a "nice" winter temp power drop.

Historical

This section contains information that no longer applies to the current version of Homecoming: City of Heroes/Villains. It is provided for historical purposes.

  • Prior to the Winter Event 2011:
    • Lord Winter's Realm was accessible only through clicking on a large Special Present that was spawned after the defeat of a Winter Lord.
    • Once the Lord Winter battle was completed, players were encouraged to stick around and defeat Winter Horde for the duration of the event. Since the 2011 event, all enemies despawn after the Winter Lord is defeated.
