This three-mission trial can be run by players level 40 or above, and rewards one Very Rare IO (purple) recipe upon the first completion of the trial.
Merit Rewards: This activity awards 20 Reward Merits.
Requirements and Contacts
This three-mission trial requires participants to be level 40 or above, but can run with as few as one participant. The trial is initiated by speaking to Ada Wellington, who is located near Wentworth's Consignments in the Christie Square neighborhood in the northwest corner of Kallisti Wharf, northwest of the Paragon Transit Authority monorail station.
Summary of Trial
Missions
Part One: Shipping Costs
I am relieved that you answered my call. We have a delicate situation at hand.
When one of the tunnels leading into Kallisti Wharf collapsed, a number of trucks carrying our stock were trapped in it. The drivers and security escorts were safely evacuated, but we could not recover any of the merchandise. Which would be fine, except for one particular item that was being carried in our largest truck: a Chekhov Power Core. It was a special order meant to make One Statesman Plaza independent from the power grid.
Such a powerful energy source could be devastating in the wrong hands. We need to know what happened to it, and recover it if possible.
The latest information from the Paragon Police Department is that the tunnel collapse was not due to natural causes. Be careful down there.
Thanks, but I don't think you can help with this problem. Maybe when you're Level 40.
The latest information from the Paragon Police Department is that the tunnel collapse was not due to natural causes. Be careful down there.
Mission Objective(s)
You have made it past the blockage and into the tunnels.
- Investigate the tunnels
- Find the Power Core
- Defeat the Freakshow Leader
You have arrested M1sT3r B1GsH0t, but the Chekhov Power Core is long gone.
Enemies
Notable NPCs
- M1sT3r B1GsH0t (Super Stunner)
The Chekhov Power Core has been taken!
The crate appears to have been opened through an extreme application of force. The lid is half smashed and there are multiple deep cuts in the surface. You can see a hard plastic lining inside that is molded to hold the Chekhov Power Core securely in place.
You defeated the Freakshow leader while his gang continued to loot Wentworth's trucks, seemingly unaware that they had already taken the most valuable and dangerous item in the shipment.
The situation is grim, Character. The Freakshow can overload that Power Core to create a bomb that would completely level Christie Square. I need to contact the main office and prepare a plan to deal with this Public Relations disaster.
Part Two: High-Risk Employment
Things just got worse. The District Manager was on her way here to meet with me when she was kidnapped by a group of Freakshow. Witnesses claim that she was being specifically targeted in an unusually coordinated assault; they took her and were gone before any hero could respond.
They might be trying to get information on the items they stole, including the Chekhov Power Core. You have to rescue her before they find out what it is!
There is one bright spot in all of this: the Freakshow didn't take her cellphone until they arrived at a nearby warehouse. I have the GPS coordinates right here.
Please hurry. Don't leave Jamie at the mercy of the Freakshow
Mission Objective(s)
You hear rave music coming from the back of the warehouse
You have captured M0uThP1eC3 and Captain Roberts. The Freakshow traded the Chekhov Power Core for some jetpacks!
Enemies
Notable NPCs
- M0uThP1eC3 (Noise Tank)
- Captain Roberts
While leading Jamie Ross out of the warehouse, she told you:
'The Freakshow are throwing a massive party in the back of this warehouse to celebrate a new alliance that will get them "high like never before". They are meeting with someone called "Captain Roberts" right now. He's the one who told them to capture me!
She scribbled something on a business card and gave it to you before leaving.
Temporary Power
During this mission, a hero can earn the Freakshow Disguise temporary power by locating and clicking a glowie crate.
Stealth
This random assorment of cybernetic parts can cause you to look like a member of the Freakshow without actually undergoing the hazardous cybernetic surgery. Will not work with self-targeted concealment related powers such as Stealth or Invisibility. 2:00:00 of usage left.
Captain Roberts refused to talk, but the Freakshow were more than willing to gloat about getting some "awesome" jetpacks in exchange for a "useless" power core. The Sky Raiders are planning to use it for something big!
Jamie is shaken, but she'll be okay. The Freakshow took her keycard and forced her to give up her access codes before you showed up; I'm sending word out that we need to change those immediately before they hit one of our warehouses.
The Sky Raiders knew what the Chekhov Power Core was the second they laid eyes on it. They might not enjoy working with anarchists, but this was too much of a good deal for them to pass up. I can't imagine what they plan to do with it, but it definitely won't be good.
Part Three: Finale
This is a disaster! I just got word that the Freakshow are staging a massive rampage all over Talos Island! The Sky Raiders must be using them as a distraction in order to break into our warehouse using the stolen codes!
The Paragon Police are on the scene, but they're outnumbered and are calling for backup. Get to Talos Island quickly and meet up with them.
The PPD Liaison Officer has requested an official designation for your team in order to coordinate your efforts. I have assigned you the name Task Force Name .
Use the Paragon City Monorail to get to Talos Island. It will be the fastest way.

Mission Objective(s)
- Stop the attack on Wentworth's
- Defeat Captain Castillo
- Destroy the Crimson Prototype
Good work, Task Force Name. The Sky Raiders were able to steal a great deal of robotics equipment, but nothing they stole was as valuable as the Chekhov Power Core. The recovery crew found fragments of it in the wreckage of that giant robot, and I will be able to write it off as a deductible casualty loss. The damage was limited, thanks to your efforts, and your quick response has made it easy to turn this into a Public Relations victory.
Not bad at all, Character. Our stockholders thank you
Strategies for Completion
Valet Badge
The Valet badge is granted at the completion of this trial, but the actions to earn it take place at the beginning of the third mission.
There are 6 cars and 4 trucks around the Wentworth's Fine Consignments building. Upon entering the mission the PPD Liaison Officer will communicate with the team via radio, and the Freakshow nearest the cars and trucks will begin attacking the vehicles. It is important to move quickly to taunt and control the Freakshow near the vehicles. There are 3 cars on the main road, 3 cars and a truck in the car parks to the west, and 3 trucks in the loading bays behind Wentworth's, as depicted in the image to the right. The Freakshow can be lured to the PPD NPCs gathered near the mission entrance in order to get the NPCs to help in defeating them.
As soon as a single vehicle is destroyed, the badge cannot be obtained in that attempt. The team will be notified if a vehicle is destroyed via yellow text in the center of the screen.
Crimson Prototype
The final archvillain is an enormous red robot called the Crimson Prototype. When the Crimson Prototype's health reaches 75%, 50%, and 25%, waves of Sky Raiders reinforcements will spawn nearby. Among the reinforcements are one or more Force Field Generators that will prevent the Crimson Prototype from taking damage while they are active. The Force Field Generators must be destroyed before the Crimson Prototype can be damaged further.
Rewards
Completion of the Market Crash Trial awards 20 Reward Merits, the Loyal Customer Badge and for first time completion one Very Rare IO (purple) recipe.
You have stopped the Sky Raiders from ransacking Wentworth's Fine Consignments.
The Valet Badge is awarded for successfully preventing the Freakshow from destroying any vehicles in Part Three.
You have kept Paragon City's vehicles safe during a Freakshow rampage.
Souvenir
Jamie Ross's Business Card
You received this card from the District Manager of Wentworth's after you rescued her from the Freakshow. A heartfelt thank you note is hastily scribbled on the back, a reminder of the mission you call:
Market Crash
It all started when a delivery truck carrying a Chekhov Power Core was trapped in the collapse of the tunnels leading into Kallisti Wharf. You were tasked to investigate the site and retrieve the Power Core if possible; unfortunately, the Freakshow got there first. You defeated their leader, but were unable to locate the Chekhov Power Core.
Jamie Ross was called to Kallisti Wharf to advise on the situation, but the Freakshow kidnapped her en route. You rescued her from a warehouse where the Freakshow were celebrating their new alliance with none other than the Sky Raiders. In exchange for a large supply of Jetpacks, the Freakshow had given up the Chekhov Power Core, abducted the District Manager in order to obtain her access codes, and were planning a joint assault of the Wentworth's warehouse!
You rushed to stop the Freakshow rampage, then entered the warehouse and rescued Wentworth's employees from the Sky Raiders. It was then that the PPD informed you that Captain Castillo was on the scene, and you met in battle. Castillo revealed what the Sky Raiders had used the Chekhov Power Core to create a giant Jumpbot, and you had just become the test subject for its combat capabilities. While Castillo escaped, you managed to destroy the Crimson Prototype and save Talos Island.
Trivia
- Market Crash is the first piece of playable content that was added to Kallisti Wharf post-shutdown.
- Originally titled Flood the Market, the Trial was previously a limited time event, added by SCoRE during the month of June, 2014 on City of Heroes Resurgence. The Trial was originally a singular mission- the finale. Players queued up in teams to play it via the LFG system, rather than through a contact, much like other event Trials (such as Summer Blockbuster). It exists as the only piece of playable content from that period of the game's history, and the first piece of mission-based content ever released by a team other than Paragon Studios.
